The analysis found that the UK's problem gambling rates remain below international norms after dropping further from 0.3% in 2021.

Gambling contributes £7.1bn ($8.6bn) to the UK economy, £4.2bn in tax, and over 100,000 employment, with 22.5 million adults betting monthly.

BGC Chief Executive Michael Dugher said: “These newly released figures demonstrate our positive progress on safer gambling and underline our urgent calls for ministers to take an evidence-based approach to the upcoming White Paper.

“These figures showing that problem gambling has fallen again will disappoint anti-gambling prohibitionists, who like to overstate the issue.

“The evidence doesn't support their alarmist demands. We want huge improvements, but they must focus on this small percentage who are prone to damage, not the majority who gamble safely and responsibly. A risk-based strategy should aid the vulnerable, not destroy the responsible majority's experience.”

The UK Government's White Paper, which would affect gambling regulation, is anticipated soon. However, we have been waiting for that report for some time...

Dugher recently claimed no one knows what the UK Government White Paper on gaming will feature.
